Followers Demand Detainment of Man Who Seized Ariana Grande
Passionate fans of the pop star are urging that a individual who jumped a barrier and seized the performer during Thursday's Wicked: For Good debut be taken into custody or expelled from Singapore.
A viral video shows the person identified as Johnson Wen bypassing camera operators and lunging at Grande while the actors made its way down a yellow carpet surrounded by fans.
Cast member Cynthia Erivo promptly wrested the stunned star away from Mr Wen, who was spotted being escorted out of the gathering by guards.
Mr Wen stated on Instagram Thursday evening that he was "released after being arrested", though legal records revealed that he was due to attend court on the next day. It is uncertain if he was formally accused.
History of Event Invasions
This is not an isolated incident for Mr Wen, who labels himself a "Troll Most Hated", has disrupted a concert or event. His Instagram account contains recordings of him disrupting other star-studded functions, including breaching the performance area at Katy Perry's Sydney concert in recently and in a similar way during The Chainsmokers event in the same location last year.
"There needs to be action enforced against him as this is clearly a punishable act," wrote an Instagram follower, in a reply to a video Mr Wen posted of his act.
"This appears to be a habit... why are you not imprisoned?" another Instagram user questioned.
Fans Show Disapproval Over Grande's Safety
Many fans criticized Mr Wen for "triggering past anxiety" Grande, who had discussed experiencing post-traumatic stress disorder after a suicide bomb attack at the conclusion of her May 2017 performance in Manchester, killing 22 people and injuring numerous individuals.
"Ariana has been through so many scary things... and at her Manchester concert and you thought it would be fun to jump the barricade?" commented another response on Instagram.
Some attendees also criticised guards at the Thursday event for not being vigilant enough; while different individuals requested social media platforms to ban Mr Wen's uploads.
Aftermath and Premiere Information
In clips shared widely, Grande seemed startled when she was touched by the individual. Her cast members Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be observed comforting her while Mr Wen was escorted away by security.
Grande has not issued a statement on the incident, and the premiere activities carried on uninterrupted.
Hundreds of supporters had assembled in a crowd of colorful attire at the Wicked: For Good regional launch in a Singapore venue, including some who had queued for as long as a significant duration before it started.
The movie, to be premiered on November 21, is the sequel of a two-film interpretation of the acclaimed theatrical musical Wicked, which centers on the surprising bond between two distinct sorceresses.
The show itself is a adaptation of the twentieth-century book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who plays the good witch Glinda, was dressed in a rosé sparkling outfit at the event while Erivo, who plays the villainous character, wore a elegant ensemble decorated with roses.
They were joined by cast member Jeff Goldblum.
The previous installment, Wicked, was the top-earning motion picture of the previous year in the UK, and scored 10 award recognitions, securing several for outstanding attire and artistic direction.
