Iran Claims Attack on US Base in the Kingdom of Bahrain, As Part of Regional Retaliatory Strikes.
Iranian forces say they have struck a US naval base in Manama, as Iran launched missile attacks across the region in retaliation for a large-scale and ongoing attack against it by the US and Israel.
Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an zone close to the headquarters of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The scope of any impact is not yet known and the American officials has remained silent.
Regional Interceptions
In other parts of the Middle East, the UAE, the State of Qatar and Kuwait - which all house American military installations - said they have engaged and destroyed incoming projectiles in their airspace.
In the Qatari capital, Qatar's defence ministry said it had successfully engaged several missiles seemingly aimed at the al-Udeid air base, the biggest US military installation in the Middle East.
Iran's Declared Retaliation
Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said in a statement it was targeting American facilities and interests as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in response for the attack on Iran carried out by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday.
That initial attack - launched at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far targeted sites linked to the Tehran's leadership, with US President Donald Trump calling on the Iranian people to rise up against the leadership.
Wider Impacts
In the State of Israel, air raid sirens sounded across the country after the Israeli military reported it had detected an incoming Iranian missile barrage.
The Ministry of Defence of the UAE said in a statement that the country has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"UAE air defence systems dealt with the missiles with great effectiveness and successfully intercepted a series of missiles," it added.
Officials reported debris landed in a neighborhood in Abu Dhabi, causing some material damage and killing a civilian.
The United States Air Force operates from Al Dhafra Air Base, south of the Emirati capital, along with the UAE Air Force.
