LA Faces Historic Heat Just Days Following Major Winter Storm.
After enduring torrential rains that resulted in floodwaters across parts of the city, the City of Angels is now seeing unusually high temperatures for the end of February.
Record-Shattering Readings
By Friday afternoon, the temperature climbed to 33 degrees Celsius (91 Fahrenheit) in central LA, per data from meteorologists. This breaks the previous daily record for February 27th, which was eighty-eight degrees Fahrenheit and was recorded just last year.
"Exceptionally warm weather" were noted on NWS maps for the region.
Public Health Alerts
Authorities cautioned that Friday's weather posed an "increased danger for heat illness" for those at risk. Their advice featured:
- Drinking plenty of fluids.
- Limiting outdoor activities during the afternoon hours of the day.
- Never leaving kids or animals unattended in a car.
A Dramatic Shift
This sudden spike in mercury comes on the heels of a intense storm system that pummeled the region last week. That event unleashed heavy snow, strong winds, and thunderstorms to higher elevations, triggering flash flood warnings for countless residents.

Weekend Outlook
Looking ahead a cooldown will arrive. Temperatures were expected to drop to around 61°F (16°C) in central Los Angeles by Friday night.
Additional areas that experienced 90°F were Long Beach, Burbank, and Woodland Hills. Meanwhile, Oxnard, Westwood, Camarillo, and Santa Maria were projected to experience the high eighties.
Over Saturday and Sunday, downtown Los Angeles can see weather in the 80s, with a further cooldown expected for the week ahead.
