Manchester United Set to Sign German Striker Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants
The Women's Super League club are finalising completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.
A Major Acquisition for United
Schüller, who has six months remaining on her contract, is known as a prolific goal-getter for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. This signing will be seen as a marquee signing for the WSL team.
Her exit from Bayern was expected since she was seen holding back emotions while applauding the German club’s fans following a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
It was reported in late December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading strikers. Per reports, all the paperwork for the move are now finalised.
Consistent Goalscoring to Boost United's Forward Line
The 28-year-old’s signing should represent a significant boost to United’s forward line. Schüller has been remarkably reliable with her finishing in the Bundesliga.
- Over seven straight seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She won the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Building Steam at Carrington
Securing Schüller’s signature comes at a time when the club seem to be gathering positive momentum.
Their recent performances feature qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the mid-season window has brought additional activity:
- The acquisition of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since joining in 2023.
Regarding Miyazawa’s new deal, a senior figure commented: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”
The new defender, having joined from a club in the American league, added: “You can sense how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
