Gus Atkinson added to the injury concerns plaguing England after leaving the field during Saturday's play in the Melbourne Test in the Ashes series.
Atkinson felt a problem in his hamstring post-delivery that he bowled during the morning session.
The England team indicated Atkinson felt some "soreness" and would spend time away from the action to undergo evaluation "during the day".
The final Test of the series beginning on 4 January starts on Sunday, 4 January.
England have previously lost key quicks Mark Wood with a knee problem and Jofra Archer with an abdominal strain on the current trip.
A replacement bowler was added to the party as injury reinforcement.
