Slot Insists He Feels Secure and Has The Club's Support After PSV Eindhoven Defeat

Arne Slot admitted that it was natural for doubts to be asked about his position following a further convincing loss against PSV Eindhoven.

The Reds suffered their ninth defeat in 12 matches, representing the club's poorest streak after being demoted in 1953-54.

They were dominated by the Dutch league champions on a difficult night at their home ground.

“I feel secure, I'm fine, I've received significant support from the top,” Slot remarked.

“It would be nice to reverse this trend and secure a win obviously but when you're coaching a team and not doing well then it's expected that people question you.”

He added, “I'm comfortable with my position. It is not the first time I've found myself in a challenging situation but it's crucial that we improved our results.”

Conversations with The Board

When asked to elaborate on his discussions with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach said:

“We communicate frequently. They assist for the squad and to me and we discuss these matters but they don’t call me all the time each day to say they trust me.”

He mentioned, “In the normal discussions I sense the confidence. But I've not talked to them after this defeat yet so let’s see.”

Familiar Issues and Squad Reaction

Slot expressed regret over recurring weaknesses from his team in their European defeat, namely missed opportunities and conceding too easily.

Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more direct in his view of the team's situation.

“I don’t have the answers. Honestly, I do not. I’m saying that to all,” Jones said.

“It is not good enough. I don't need to wait to consider it. I'm beyond being angry internally. I've reached the stage now where I simply lack the phrases.”

He went on, “It's tough because I play for the club I love. I'm a supporter, and I've watched this club all my life.”

“For many years, I haven’t experienced a Reds side enduring a period of this nature with performances so bad.”

He stated, “But we continue to wear the crest on our shirts. And until it is gone, we’re always going to fight.”

“We will attempt to bring this squad return to where it needs to be, demonstrate to all again the values of this club and why it's known as the top club in the planet.”

“At this moment, we're in trouble and it must improve.”
