The Fifth Toy Story Film Trailer Pits The Beloved Duo Against a Digital Device
Exactly 30 anniversary after the first Toy Story film was released, establishing the animation giant as a major animation studio and bringing audiences to iconic figures like Woody (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.
In 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed recently, offering a glimpse into the plot but keeping viewers wondering how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Toys
The preview shows Bonnie — who received the toy collection when he left for college — getting a brand new plaything, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. Bonnie acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.
Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the toys seem to view it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it likely will.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
One thing the trailer avoids is why the sheriff is returned with his companions in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), traveling with a carnival and helping giveaway items locate loving owners.
Certainly, Pixar will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him appear in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is a little strange, though. It also raises questions whether his partner will have returned with him. And where is the stuntman toy (the star)?
Connections from the Last Installment
Fortunately, some elements are carrying over from the earlier movie. The final act Woody did before setting off for his fresh path was pass his sheriff badge to Jessie (the voice actor), leaving her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser displays the badge pinned to her shirt.
Hopefully she is still the key figure among the toys.
Toy Story 5 debuts on the scheduled date.
