The Latest Casual Playlist Ignites Intense Discussions Regarding Bots, XP Rewards, and Wait Times
Recently, Battlefield Studios launched a fresh game mode titled Casual Breakthrough. In essence, this mode mirrors the regular Breakthrough format but features a few notable changes:
- Each team has just 8 human participants, with the remaining made up of AI-controlled opponents.
- Activities performed by real players award complete experience points, while AI activities provide lower rewards.
- Only two maps are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State.
- Elements like Player tags, accolades, and stat tracking have been turned off.
So essentially, the playlist lives up to its title: it's a laid-back take of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume it's a good idea, since it gives more options for gamers seeking alternative methods to have fun with the game. But, gaming history has shown one thing, it's that not everyone will be happy. In other words, a lot of BF6 fans are upset.
Community Reactions: Anger to Praise
"Gamers prefer real players. Don't repeat the errors of your competitors," states one reply to the official announcement. "Absolutely shocking idea," says a different user. Meanwhile, in community forums, one user remarks, "It's unclear where we are headed with this title," while someone else details everything they believe to be problematic in Battlefield 6: "Fix bugs, address drone issues, fix IVF rockets, adjust aiming after sprinting, improve hit detection. We do not require this bot mode."
On the other hand, amid the criticism, there are players sharing how much they're liking the recent addition. "It's enjoyable to practice, real players prevent it from being a complete grind but it's quite laid-back," says a forum post. "This subreddit fails to see that there are gamers who actually go outside and don't play this title all the time. Let them find a middle ground," states another. One reply via social media clarifies that as they're "a parent gamer with busy schedules, this is great for me," and someone else praises the mode for "avoiding intense competition."
Constructive Criticisms and Player Feedback
Despite the support, there are constructive reasons to complain about the new mode. A few folks have pointed out that it could increase queue times even longer for different playlists due to the sheer number of playlists currently available. On a similar note, some areas already encounter AI-filled matches in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a required amount of human gamers, even though it primarily centers on combat against bots.
Finally, one of the biggest grievances is that Battlefield Portal was promised to offer full XP, including AI matches, but that was removed when they tried to remove bot farms from the system. So Casual Breakthrough feels like the player base compromising in the middle, as per a Reddit comment. Another describes this mode as the developers "dropping the ball significantly, I had so much fun in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to change it?"
Future Prospects: Will Changes Occur?
Should the development team has proven anything so far with the latest installment, it's that they're paying attention and acting on feedback. Tasks that were overly hard got fixed very quickly, just like the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, should analytics shows this recent mode is underperforming to their expectations, they won't be shy to make further modifications.
