UK Ready to Employ Frozen Russian Assets to Fund Ukraine's War Effort
The UK is prepared to move forward with utilizing the entire amount of seized Russian holdings to aid the Ukrainian war effort, Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has announced.
In a joint statement, the heads of state of the United Kingdom, the French Republic, and the Federal Republic of Germany stated that this unified step would heighten pressure on Russian President Vladimir Putin and urge Moscow to come to the table.
They added that the decision would be executed in strong partnership with the America.
UK penalties have frozen over £25bn of Russia's resources since Russia launched its comprehensive attack against the Ukrainian nation in 2022. But, up to this point, resources sent to the Ukrainian government using Russian holdings had only been taken from profits and interest generated on them.
Sir Keir told Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky that the Britain, the French Republic, and the Federal Republic of Germany were united in their aim to advance efforts toward employing the total worth of the seized Russian sovereign holdings to conclude the conflict.
He noted that more measures in the coming days and weeks would apply more pressure on Moscow.
This statement is subsequent to EU representatives gathered in the Danish capital last week to debate employing immobilized Russian funds for a €140bn credit to the Ukrainian nation.
Last month, President Donald Trump encouraged Group of Seven partners to take or otherwise use immobilized Russian assets, according to news outlets.
The value of seized Russian assets in the European Union is estimated to be nearly €211bn.
