A former US state department official, a foreign policy expert, observed, "The Russian leader is attempting to derail the progress toward greater sanctions on the Kremlin." Fried continued, "The outcome will become clear on Friday, but the likelihood of achieving a truce by pushing Moscow to engage sincerely seem to have decreased."

The development followed the US president had recently been hardening his rhetoric toward Moscow until Thursday's conversation with the Russian president, which the Kremlin characterized as "highly open and constructive."

EU Fuel Sanctions and Market Effects

EU authorities have set a mandate for energy importers into the European Union to prove their fuels are not sourced from Russian crude, as stated in a official guideline released on recently. This measure is part of the European Union's upcoming prohibition on imports of fuels processed from Russian crude, which forms part of its 18th restrictive measures against Moscow over its war in Ukraine.

Financial analysts noted that trading patterns appeared to be considering the possible end of Indian purchases of Russian oil. Some Indian refiners are getting ready to reduce purchases from Russia, with projections of a phased decrease, according to sources knowledgeable about the matter.

"This represents a positive development for the crude oil price as it would eliminate a major customer of Russian crude," commented Tony Sycamore, noting that oil prices were steady on the trading day.

Military Situation and Energy Attacks

A massive Moscow's unmanned aircraft and rocket assault targeted gas facilities in eastern Ukraine on Thursday, resulting in disruptions in multiple areas. Ukrainian officials reported that Russian forces launched hundreds of drones and dozens of missiles, along with aerial munitions.

"During this fall, the Russian forces use every single day to attack at our power facilities," declared Ukraine's president, noting that strikes affected the regions of northern Ukraine, Kharkiv, Poltava, northeastern Ukraine and Vinnytsia.

The proposed system, called the "EU defensive program," is expected to begin working in its first phase by the 2026 timeline and be completely operational by the following year. EU authorities hopes to obtain the backing of EU leaders at a meeting next week.
